The Pegasus RTX is a rugged-terrain light truck tire for pickups, Jeeps and SUVs that need more off-road bite than an all-terrain with calmer road manners than a mud-terrain. Pegasus is a line launched in the US by American Pacific Industries. The RTX comes only in heavy-duty construction, in LT and flotation sizes for 17-inch to 24-inch wheels.
The tread pairs large blocks with lateral grooves and angled channels to clear mud and grab loose dirt and gravel. Interlocking blocks in the center brace each other under load, which keeps the tread stable and helps it wear evenly. The carcass is a high-strength build. Most sizes are load range E (10-ply rating) or F (12-ply rating), and nearly all are Q-rated (99 mph). Tread depth on the LT245/75R17 is 14/32 inch.
Compared with a mud-terrain, the RTX is the quieter, longer-wearing choice for a truck that splits its time between road and trail. It is backed by a 40,000-mile treadwear warranty on LT-metric sizes and 50,000 miles on the 33-inch flotation sizes, which is uncommon in this category.
Best-suited for: Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, Ford F-250, Ram 2500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator.
