The Blackhawk BTR55ST is a heavy-duty all-steel ST trailer tire in load ranges F and G. It is for the heaviest trailers: big fifth wheels, travel trailers, car haulers and equipment trailers that need more capacity than a load range E tire offers.
"All-steel" means steel cords in the body plies as well as in the belts. A light-duty ST tire typically uses polyester body plies, and the steel casing is what lets this tire carry heavy loads at high inflation pressure without excessive flex. Less flex means less heat, and a cooler casing lasts longer. The ST235/80R16 in load range G carries 4,079 lbs per tire on a single axle (load index 129/125). The ST235/85R16 carries 4,409 lbs (132/127). Four wide circumferential grooves drain water from the footprint for wet-road stability.
Two numbers help you get its full capacity. First, the wheels: load range G sizes run at 110 psi, so match them with wheels stamped for that pressure. Second, the speed rating: most sizes are rated L (75 mph) and some M (81 mph), the ceiling for a loaded trailer. It is built for free-rolling trailer axles only.
Best-suited for: Fifth-wheel trailers, large travel trailers, toy haulers, car haulers, gooseneck and equipment trailers.
